Jared Kushner, son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, said that visits by American representatives to the capitals of Russia and Ukraine made it possible to determine what the next steps should be to resolve the conflict.
"I would say that it (the trip to Moscow and Kyiv. - Ed. note) was very successful. I think we now have a clear understanding of what the next steps should be," the publication Ukrainska Pravda quoted him as saying from a video address at a forum in Kyiv.
Kushner also noted that the United States had gained a concrete understanding of what could lead to a long-term settlement. In addition, the Washington representative spoke of the emergence of new ideas that could be discussed at a trilateral meeting in the near future.
On Saturday of last week, a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Kushner and U.S. presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff took place in the Kremlin; it lasted about three hours. On the Russian side, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov and the special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev, also took part in the talks.
The next day, American diplomats held meetings with the Ukrainian side in Kyiv. The TSN television channel reported that after the talks, representatives of Britain, France and Germany joined the dialogue.
