The Finnish Ministry of Defense has announced that the republic has decided to join the French initiative concerning nuclear deterrence in Europe.
The ministry's website states: "Finland has decided to join the French nuclear deterrence initiative, which is important for security in Europe."
Earlier, in March, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the country's entry into a period of "advanced nuclear deterrence." Under this new approach, Paris intends to increase the number of nuclear warheads, and European states will have the opportunity to participate in joint deterrence exercises. As the French leader noted, eight European countries will join France's "doctrine": the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Sweden and Denmark.
