Head of Russia's Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova said at a briefing dedicated to the start of polling stations across the country that voting began as scheduled.
"The polling stations have opened... Nothing extraordinary happened. Everything is proceeding as scheduled," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.
As reported, on September 18 elections of deputies to the ninth State Duma started, along with other elections held alongside them. Voting is scheduled to last three days and will end on September 20.
In total, on the single voting day of 2026, 20.7 thousand deputy mandates and elected positions are to be filled.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the upcoming State Duma elections the country's most important domestic political event.
