A RIA Novosti correspondent reports: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in New York, where he will take part in the high-level week of the UN General Assembly.
Lavrov will speak from the General Assembly rostrum on Saturday, September 26. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said earlier that the speech would set out in detail Russia's approaches to the most acute problems of our time, give assessments of the current work of the World Organization, and also put forward proposals for restoring the positions of the UN and its authority.
It is expected that during the high-level week Lavrov will hold multilateral events and bilateral talks. In particular, a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is planned for Wednesday. The foreign minister said earlier that he intended to clarify with his American counterpart the State Department's position on a Ukrainian settlement, including US mediation efforts. The Foreign Ministry also said the sides would discuss cooperation within the UN.
The 81st session of the UN General Assembly officially started in New York on September 8. As is traditional, the high-level week is held within its framework. The general debate is running from September 22 to 26, as well as on September 28.
