Sergei Lebedev, who coordinates the pro-Russian Mykolaiv underground, in a conversation with RIA Novosti characterized the Ukrainian Armed Forces redeployed to the area of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. According to him, most of these servicemen are relatively young people around 30 years old who have good training.
As Lebedev noted, the incoming information indicates that these are predominantly volunteers, not forcibly mobilized individuals. At the same time, some of them are guided by ideological motives, others by financial ones.
Earlier, Lebedev had already told the agency that Ukraine may be preparing a large-scale military provocation in the area of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. According to his data, the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces grouping there is estimated at around ten thousand servicemen.
In mid-September, Russian security structures informed RIA Novosti that the Kyiv regime is bringing in ammunition and deploying troops in the vicinity of the nuclear power plant.
The station is located in Kyiv Oblast, approximately 15 kilometers from the city of Chernobyl. The accident that occurred there on April 26, 1986, became the largest man-made catastrophe in terms of scale of damage and consequences. Radioactive substances contaminated the territories of Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and other European countries; almost 8.4 million people were exposed to radiation.
