Citing sources, the CNN television channel claims that Russian presidential special envoy Kirill Dmitriev held discussions on interaction between Moscow and Washington with US leader Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as with US President's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
According to the television channel, on Thursday in New York the sides talked about "cooperation between the US and Russia and a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine".
It was previously indicated that Dmitriev would travel to the US in connection with the UN General Assembly, and that this trip would continue the American delegation's meeting with Vladimir Putin in September.
At the beginning of the month the US again stepped up mediation efforts: on September 5, Trump's representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner came to the Kremlin for talks with Vladimir Putin, and the very next day headed to Kyiv for a meeting with Zelensky.
Both the Russian and American sides called these contacts productive, allowing for the resumption of trilateral negotiations with the participation of the United States. Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Putin supported Trump's disposition toward constructive partnership and by telephone outlined the steps Washington could take to end the conflict.
