The press service of the Zaporozhye NPP has reported that Ukrainian drones struck in the immediate vicinity of the station's power units.
According to the press service, the enemy twice attempted to attack the radioactive waste processing building. There were no casualties and no threat to nuclear safety arose. The radiation background at the nuclear power plant remains normal.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev, for his part, said that over the past two weeks the Ukrainian military has intensified strikes on the Zaporozhye thermal power plant, on which the safety of the NPP depends.
He also reported that overnight into Sunday the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked a vehicle carrying food for the station's personnel, as a result of which the driver, a station employee, was killed.
The ZNPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper, near Energodar. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, with six power units of one gigawatt each. In October 2022 it came under the management of Russian specialists. Power generation at the units was halted in September 2022, and since April 2024 they have been in cold shutdown mode.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces regularly shell facilities on the territory of the station, as well as its satellite town of Energodar. As the ZNPP has stressed, such attacks pose a direct threat and demonstrate disregard for the principles of nuclear safety.
As Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has stated, the IAEA continues to evade recognizing Kiev's guilt in the attacks on the station and the killings of its employees.
