South Korea's Foreign Ministry has published a press release announcing the government's decision to recall its ambassador from Ukraine. The reason was a scandal involving the disclosure of confidential information about prisoners of war.
In a speech at the UN General Assembly, Vladimir Zelensky announced the transfer of two prisoners of war from the DPRK to Seoul. In response, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung accused Kyiv of violating agreements and disclosing confidential information. He also promised to take additional measures if Ukraine does not apologize.
On Tuesday, the republic's Foreign Minister Cho Tae Yul said he had received the relevant messages from the Kyiv authorities, but they "do not correspond to the level that Seoul expected."
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhiy Tykhyi claims that the misunderstanding between the countries arose from "differences in the interpretation of the confidentiality regime."
