In Turkmenistan, Vladimir Putin met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The talks covered both bilateral relations and the situation in the Middle East.

According to the Russian leader, the problem of the situation in the region is the most acute today. Putin noted that Iran, as is known, is making real attempts to end the conflict that broke out in the region not through its fault. He also assured his counterpart that Moscow is ready to do everything necessary to assist Tehran in a settlement.

As for interaction between the two countries, according to Putin, it is developing successfully and strengthening on the basis of the signed treaty. In the economic sphere, the processes can be considered positive: growth in trade turnover last year was 21 percent plus, and in the first seven months of this year the trend continues.

As Pezeshkian's office reported following the talks, they were devoted to strengthening economic and strategic cooperation in such key areas as energy, agriculture, transport and trade.

The meeting took place in Turkmenistan, where Putin arrived to take part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of CIS Countries and the Caspian Ecological Summit. The leaders of all five Caspian states, including the president of Iran, came to the summit. The events are being held in the national tourist zone "Avaza" on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea. On the first day, an official reception was held there in honor of the heads of delegations, after which Putin discussed with the president of the republic, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the main points of dynamically developing bilateral relations. In addition, he separately spoke "on his feet" with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev.
