Scott Bessent, who heads the US Treasury Department, described criticism from Europe of the agreement between Moscow and Washington on diesel fuel supplies as hypocrisy.

In a comment to Fox News, he said that Europeans have provided Russia with more money than Ukraine, since they cannot do without Russian energy resources. In his opinion, statements about the impossibility of getting relief from diesel prices are complete hypocrisy.

Bessent also noted that supplies of Russian diesel fuel are beneficial to Americans, and sanctions against Moscow do not hinder this agreement.

On Friday, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump held a telephone conversation. After it, the US president announced a large-scale agreement in the energy sphere: Moscow, depending on the state of its refineries, will supply up to three million tons of diesel fuel to the American and world markets. For this, the country's Finance Ministry issued an exemption from sanctions valid until April 7.

The day before, the Russian government partially lifted the ban on diesel exports. As Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated, in October Moscow is ready to supply 300 thousand tons, in November - 500, in December - up to a million. In the future, the volume may grow to three million tons per month. At the same time, the domestic market will remain fully supplied with diesel, he emphasized.
