Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, in a conversation with RIA Novosti, explained why US President Donald Trump speaks of the need for a new leader for Ukraine. According to Peskov, Vladimir Zelensky is not demonstrating the necessary political will to stop the conflict.

The Kremlin representative also noted that for now Zelensky does not want to do this.

Earlier, Peskov had already told RIA Novosti that it is important to Moscow that someone on the part of the Kyiv regime show political will to recognize the realities that have taken shape on the ground and to move toward a peaceful settlement.

On Saturday, Donald Trump told journalists that Vladimir Zelensky could have settled the Ukrainian conflict many times, but did not do so. Therefore, according to him, Ukraine needs a new leader who can reach an agreement with Russia. Later he called for holding elections in Ukraine.

On Friday, a meeting between the Americans and the Ukrainian side took place in Miami, which, according to media reports, ended early. The reason for this, it is noted, was the deal on Russian diesel fuel that the head of the White House announced after telephone talks with Vladimir Putin.

As reported, Trump's representatives also warned the Ukrainians about the possible suspension of intelligence sharing if they do not renounce attacks on Russian oil refineries.
