About 2.2 million people in Moscow took part in online voting in the State Duma elections. The figures are provided by an election campaign monitoring service.

According to information on the site, slightly more than 2,189,174 ballots were issued in 24 hours, and about 2,137,095 were received.

The head of the Public Headquarters for Election Observation in the capital, Vadim Kovalev, said that about 100,000 people voted remotely overnight.

The elections of State Duma representatives and municipal deputies of the Shchukino district are being held in Moscow from September 18 to 20. Adults with permanent registration in the capital may take part in them.

Remote electronic voting (DEG) is available at elec.mos.ru from 08:00 on Friday to 19:59 on Sunday. It is also possible to vote electronically via a terminal at any polling station in the city.

The day before, the single voting day started in Russia. Central Election Commission chair Ella Pamfilova stressed that the elections began in a normal mode, which was achieved despite attempts at provocations. They will last until September 20. On the first day, turnout was 29.43 percent.

In the federal electoral district, the following are represented: United Russia, LDPR, the Direct Democracy Party, the Greens, A Just Russia, Rodina, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the Party of Pensioners, Communists of Russia and New People.

In total, more than 2,200 campaigns of various levels will be held. Russians will elect 20,700 deputies and heads of administrations.

Most polling stations will operate from 08:00 to 20:00. An exception was made for some of them in border areas - voting time there has been reduced. In parallel, DEG is being held in 33 regions.

More than 380,000 people have become observers at the elections. Among them are more than a thousand foreigners representing 133 states and 13 international organizations.

For the first time, State Duma deputies will be elected by residents of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. For them and for voters in some border regions, the possibility of early voting has been provided.

Abroad, 333 polling stations have been opened in 152 countries.

President Vladimir Putin previously called the State Duma elections the country's most important domestic political event.
