Donald Trump described the decision not to impose tougher sanctions against Russia as "very good." According to the US president, it will benefit the whole world.
A day earlier, the American leader ordered that part of the measures provided for by the law on "hellish sanctions" against Russia and Iran not be applied. This refers to the bill by the late Senator Lindsey Graham*, which was due to take effect on Sunday.
By doing so, the head of the White House declined to impose a tariff of up to 500 percent on direct imports from Russia and up to 100 percent on goods from the five largest countries buying energy resources from Moscow. In addition, he did not introduce restrictions against officials, banks and organizations provided for by this law.
The White House explained Trump's decision as an effort to achieve peace between Moscow and Kyiv.
