In Tehran, a meeting took place between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who arrived on a working visit. The Iranian leader thanked Vladimir Putin for his principled approach to the situation in the Middle East.

For its part, the Russian side conveyed that Putin expects Pezeshkian at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum summit in Moscow at the end of October and counts on a bilateral meeting. The President of Iran expressed hope that the upcoming visit will create ground for advancing existing agreements.

In addition to Pezeshkian, Lavrov met with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi and with Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic.

Following the talks, Lavrov stressed that the unsafe situation in the Middle East arose because of unprovoked American-Israeli aggression. He expressed readiness to help find ways out of the conflict between Iran and the United States.

According to him, despite the difficult situation in the region, Russia does not intend to abandon the implementation of agreements with Iran in the economic and investment spheres. In particular, Rosatom specialists are already gradually returning to the Bushehr nuclear power plant.

As Putin has noted, relations between Russia and Iran are those of a comprehensive strategic partnership. According to him, trade between the countries grew by more than 21 percent at the end of last year, and in the first seven months of 2026 this trend continues. Moscow and Tehran also actively cooperate in the cultural, educational and sports spheres.
