Sergei Lavrov, who heads the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that Moscow is not abandoning agreements with Washington, but that there will be no political concessions. He said this at a meeting with university graduates who were accepted into the diplomatic service for the first time.

According to the minister, US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Russia and tried to "organize" something. Lavrov noted: "We will see what they propose. If they propose something that is economically and financially beneficial to us, then why not? But this must be done without any political concessions on our part and without expecting political goodwill that will "carry" us in all world affairs."

The head of the Foreign Ministry urged people not to be delighted that the owner of the White House, Donald Trump, decided not to apply the sanctions law, since it is unknown how another president would act.

Lavrov recalled that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, speaking about an agreement with Russia on diesel fuel, called it merely an exception to the restrictive measures that continue to be in force, and "there is no getting away from it."

As the head of the foreign policy agency pointed out, one should proceed from the assumption that the United States is at best a rival, and at a minimum an adversary not inclined toward fair competition.
