According to the G1 portal, a court has ruled that Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, a right-wing politician and unsuccessful candidate for president of Brazil, must surrender his passport. The decision was made as part of an investigation into money laundering. It is specified that all passports, including the diplomatic one, must be surrendered.
Brazil's Federal Police are conducting an investigation into Bolsonaro. He is suspected of participating, together with lawyer Willer Tomas, in an alleged money laundering scheme. Investigators' interest in Tomas arose after signs were found that he controlled the betting company Rede Loto, which in May 2023 received permission from the government of the state of Rio de Janeiro to operate.
After obtaining a court authorization, police examined electronic messages, letters and other data from the lawyer's phone. Analysis of these materials revealed Tomas's financial ties to Bolsonaro, as well as at least five joint foreign trips they made in the first half of 2025.
Bolsonaro rejected the accusations, calling the publication "fake news."
Brazil held the second round of its presidential election on October 25. The incumbent head of state, Lula da Silva, won. His opponent, Senator Bolsonaro, initially refused to recognize the election results but then abandoned that intention.
