In an interview with the CBS television channel, US President Donald Trump said that if Democrats obtain a majority in Congress following the midterm elections, he will veto their legislative initiatives. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
In addition, the head of the White House indicated that he does not object to the nickname "Mr. Veto," which reflects his determination to oppose Democratic legislative initiatives.
At the same time, Trump expressed the opinion that the Republican Party has good chances of winning. According to him, in any case, Republican supporters will not have to be ashamed of the voting results. He did not make specific forecasts regarding the outcome of the elections, noting that voting is often accompanied by unexpected results.
On November 3, the United States holds midterm elections to Congress. Their results will determine whether Republicans retain a majority in both chambers. In the House of Representatives, voters are to choose all 435 congressmen; in the Senate, 35 of the 100 legislators.
To reach the threshold of 218 seats needed for a majority in the lower chamber, Democrats need to increase their representation by only four seats compared with the current 214. In the upper chamber, Republicans can lose no more than three seats in order to retain control of it.
