According to a Bloomberg forecast, in the US midterm elections to the House of Representatives the Democratic Party is ahead of the Republicans by a twofold margin.

As of the time of publication, the Democrats had won 86 seats in the lower chamber of Congress and the Republicans 43.

In addition, in three electoral districts - Kentucky's 6th District, North Carolina's 11th District and Pennsylvania's 8th District - seats previously held by Republicans were won by Democrats.

In the previous Congress the Republicans held 218 seats in the House of Representatives against 214 for the Democrats, meaning the Democratic Party now needs to gain four seats to control the chamber.

Earlier the US analytical service Decision Desk HQ estimated the probability of control of the US House of Representatives passing to the Democrats at 84 percent.

On November 3 the United States holds midterm elections to Congress, the results of which will determine whether the Republicans retain their majority in both chambers. In the House of Representatives voters are to choose all 435 congressmen, and in the Senate 35 of the 100 legislators.

The Democrats need to increase their representation in the lower chamber by just four seats compared with the current 214 to reach the threshold of 218 seats needed for a majority.

In the upper chamber the Republicans can lose no more than three seats in order to retain control of it.

US President Donald Trump has already threatened to veto Democratic legislative initiatives if they win a majority in Congress.
