According to a forecast by Bloomberg, the Democratic Party will win a majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate following the US midterm elections.
On the Senate seat distribution map published by the agency, the Democrats reached the 51-seat mark. This will give them an independent majority in the upper chamber of Congress, which has 100 seats.
Before the elections, the Senate was controlled by the Republicans: they had 53 seats against 47 for the Democrats and independent senators belonging to their faction. To gain a majority, the Democrats needed to take at least four seats from the Republicans while retaining all of their own.
As follows from media forecasts, the Democratic Party will also gain control of the House of Representatives. According to Bloomberg's count, it took eight seats from the Republican Party - twice as many as it needed for a majority.
On November 3, the United States held midterm elections to Congress, in which Republicans had previously controlled both chambers. In the House of Representatives, voters were to choose all 435 congressmen; in the Senate, 35 of the 100 legislators.
US President Donald Trump said in an interview with the New York Times that he was ready to accept the results of the midterm elections to Congress and to work with representatives of the Democratic Party.
A White House representative, in a conversation with RIA Novosti, explained the Republican Party's results by the fact that Trump's name was absent from the ballots, and his supporters turn out more actively when he is on the ballot.
