According to a Bloomberg forecast, based on the results of the US midterm elections the Democratic Party will win a majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The agency's map shows that Democrats will take 54 Senate seats and 223 House seats, while Republicans will take 41 and 126 respectively.
Currently both chambers are controlled by the Republican Party - 53 and 219 seats respectively.
US President Donald Trump said he is ready to accept the midterm election results and cooperate with the Democrats. He had hoped for a stronger showing by Republicans and attributed the defeat to rising gasoline prices because of the conflict with Iran. At the same time, the White House chief did not regard it as his own failure.
The vote in the US took place the day before. In the House of Representatives, voters were to choose all 435 congressmen; in the Senate, 35 of the 100 lawmakers.
Control of Congress will give Democrats the ability to block Trump's legislative agenda, conduct investigations into his administration and limit government spending. A Senate majority will allow them to block appointments to government posts of candidates proposed by the president.
On the eve of election day, the White House chief said he was ready for such an outcome, which, he said, is typical of American politics.
