The 54-year-old actor - who was heard calling his former girlfriend a "****" and saying he wants to "bury her" in a rose garden in audio tapes leaked earlier this year- has reportedly agreed to give his side of the story as he is concerned his career will be ruined because of the allegations, though he has yet to make a decision about who he will speak to.
A source told gossip website PopEater: "Since the second the tapes were released, every media outlet has been contacting Mel`s people asking for an interview.
"Now, after months of silence, Mel has finally realised if he doesn`t say something really soon it might be too late. The days of burying his head in the sand hoping this whole ugly mess goes away are over."
It is not the first time Mel has given an interview following a potentially career-destroying incident - he previously sat down with Diana Sawyer in 2006 after making anti-Semitic remarks after being arrested for driving under the influence - but the response was not good and he is intent on picking a better outlet.
A friend of Mel`s said: "Mel did an interview with Diane Sawyer after his anti-Semitic remarks several years ago, and that didn`t go so well for him.
"Now, with the stakes even higher, everyone thinks it would be better for a man to sit opposite another man to discuss everything that has been going on lately. I suppose the first choice would be Matt Lauer from the `Today` show. It`s certainly not going to be Oprah after she almost got Oksana to tell all."
It was previously claimed that Oksana - who has 11-month-old daughter Lucia with Mel - was planning to give an interview about her relationship with the actor to Oprah Winfrey, but the proposal was later abandoned in case it affected the former couple?s ongoing custody battle.
