BAKU, November 3 -- The Opposition in Azerbaijan has "no revolutionary scenarios" for the post-election period in the country, one of the leaders of the Azadlyg bloc, leader of the Musavat party Isa Gambar has told a news conference. He announced that the Opposition had no plans for staging any mass actions either on November 6, the day of the parliamentary elections, or on the next day. This decision, he said, was made at a meeting of Azadlyg leaders earlier on Thursday. "On November 6 we shall do our utmost to ensure the election is held in strict compliance with the law, calmly and peacefully. On the night following the election and on November 7 we shall be studying, summarizing and analyzing the election returns," the Musavat party’s leader said. However, on November 8,9 and 10 the bloc plans to stage rallies and marches agreed with the authorities. "Those will be exclusively peaceful actions within the framework of the Constitution," Gambar said. The Opposition’s aims will depend on the election’s outcome. "If the voting is recognized as fair, we shall approve of them at our rallies. If not, we shall express our protest," Gambar said. He argues that a "normal election will give the Azadlyg bloc more than half of the seats in the national parliament." The opposition has evidence the authorities have been making preparations for wholesale election rigging, Gambar warned.
