LVOV, November 4 - An auction selling the Ternopol airport was not held in Ukraine on Friday, as not a single bid had been made, press secretary of the regional department of the Ukrainian State Property Fund Larisa Shumilo told Itar-Tass. She said the fund would announce another tender for December 9. The starting price of 10 million hryvni ($2 million) will not be altered. The new owner will have to pay the airport’s credit indebtedness of 750,000 hryvni ($150,000), provide for the airport functioning, and restore 127 buildings and 34 aircraft, including those that have not flied for a long time. This is the first attempt of Ukraine to sell an airport. Up till now only separate airport buildings or hangars were offered to buyers. The Ternopol airport auction was a pilot project. All in all, the country has 50 airports, but less than 20 of them are fully operational. The rest are either closed or make both ends meet with difficulty.
