Fed up with your daily routine? In search of inspiration? Head to the Art Healing Ministry in New York, where the quintessential conceptual artist - Russian-born Alexander Melamid - will help you recover with a twist of irony. At the Art Healing Ministry they use products for "infusing the power of art into your everyday living." Therefore, expect the unexpected: van Gogh Face Peels, Brancusi Slim-Down Projections, Picasso Art-Charged Water, Art Enhanced Votive Candles and Art Anointed Prayer Cards. "Flawless skin and flat stomachs are guaranteed," but only if you do not forget to switch on your drowsy sense of humor the moment you step inside the one-off clinic in SoHo. The unconventional artist, Melamid, has long been trying to reveal the "power of art to galvanize, fortify, stimulate, rouse, exhilarate, soothe and enlighten." Back in the early 1970s, he was at the forefront of the Sots Art movement, the Soviet answer to Pop Art. Mocking at the state`s ideology and propaganda, Melamid’s works were censored and destroyed, his exhibitions banned. With his soulmate Vitaly Komar, they migrated to America where Melamid has been living since 1978. Signature works by the artistic duo can be found at the Guggenheim Museum, at MOMA, as well as at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. In 2004, the creative tandem "Komar-Melamid" split up and Melamid started looking for new solo artistic challenges. Legend has it that while in Rome visiting museums and cathedrals, he realized that modern day art-lovers are replacing the religious pilgrim. "Collectors, museum employees and people overexposed to the art objects have reported in huge numbers an abundance of almost miraculous instances of the medicinal properties of major Art masterpieces," he says. "Seeing art was a healing experience." With this in mind, Melamid decided to launch his Art Healing Ministry. "Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity," Hippocrates used to say. One of the most sought-after objects offered by Melamid is the so-called "Box of Happiness". It is a wonderful attempt to use the magic of art in practice. The wooden box, signed by Alex Melamid himself, enables you to "be happy when you want and where your want by just opening our box and taking a look." All art products at the Art Healing Ministry are limited edition of only 500 pieces, with prices ranging from $25 for Picasso Art-Charged Water to $150 for a chance to be happy on demand. Nothing is as tempting as an illusion.
