KRASNODAR, November 8 - A total of 226 people with intestinal infection symptoms, including 190 children, are staying in hospitals of the southern Krasnodar region as of Tuesday morning, an officer on duty at the regional emergencies and civil defence department has told Itar-Tass. Two more people were hospitalised during the night, Anatoly Khmyz said. Most patients were taken to hospitals of Sochi, Adler, Krasnodar and Tuapse with suspected intestinal infection during the previous weekend, he added. All patients were taking part in a children’s festival organized at a vacation hotel in Adler, a district of Sochi. The local prosecutor’s office on Monday instituted criminal proceedings in connection with a mass poisoning of adults and children as a result of the violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules. Those responsible are facing major penalties or up to two years in prison. An emergency session of the sanitary and epidemiological commission was held on Monday. Krasnodar region Governor Alexander Tkachev, who chaired the session, has assumed personal control over the incident.
