MOSCOW. Nov 8 - Vladimir Mamontov from Komsomolskaya Pravda is expected to replace Vladimir Borodin as editor-in-chief of the Izvestia newspaper. Gazprom-Media Holding General Director Nikolai Senkevich confirmed this information in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper on Tuesday. The company began considering replacing Izvestia`s editor-in-chief when it started to analyze the newspaper`s affairs, Senkevich said. "The newspaper is in a difficult situation and its circulation is declining. The situation with regional editions is also complex. Its shareholders believe that the newspaper lacks a `guiding hand`," he said. Commenting on Mamontov`s upcoming appointment, he said that the main argument in favor of this decision was that Mamontov "has turned Komsomolka [Komsomolskaya Pravda] into one of the most successful projects." The move is not politically motivated and Izvestia`s editorial policy will remain unchanged, Senkevich said. "Vladimir Borodin is a brilliant journalist. He has done a lot for the newspaper. But shareholders believe that it is not enough to pull the newspaper out of its financial and public crisis. A stronger editorial team is needed," he said. Borodin has been offered the post of first deputy editor-in-chief, but he has not yet given his answer, Senkevich said. Interfax
