ADELE needs John Barnes to sort her a few crates of Lucozade as she continues to nurse a nasty bout of bronchitis. The singer planned to perform at last night`s Barclaycard Mercury Prize in London but failed a fitness test. Instead she had to watch fellow nominees - including winner PJ Harvey - take the stage at the Grosvenor House Hotel while browsing the soft drinks section. Adele - in the running for her record-breaking album 21 - said: "I`m gutted, I feel really ill, I`m trying not to pass the germs on to anyone. "I really wanted to sing but I can`t hit any of the high notes." Adele had to cancel two tour dates last week but did manage to appear on Saturday`s Jonathan Ross Show. Last night, though, she managed to find enough energy to have a pop at host Jools Holland on stage after he mistakenly said she had a throat infection. She told him: "I ain`t got a throat infection, don`t jinx it. It`s a chest infection and it makes me breathless." Adele`s debut album 19 was nominated in 2008 but was beaten by Elbow`s The Seldom Seen Kid. But there didn`t appear to be any hard feelings between Adele and frontman Guy Garvey at this year`s do. She made a beeline for his table and exchanged some banter. It could have been the perfect chance for revenge. All she had to do was breathe on him.
