First-rate pharmaceutical company "Pfizer" has made the last clinical trials of a new preparation able to help smoker to give up nicotine dependence. The new preparation - vareniclin - does not contain nicotine and acts directly to the mechanism of nicotine dependence forming in brain. There was a preparation "Ziban" of the firm "GlaxoSmithClain" in the market, which proved itself as quite effective and safe drug. The great experience of its clinical use in USA, Canada and Great Britain for treating patients who suffered from nicotine dependence is the evidence of it. According to scientists results of tests showed vareniclin is more effective than "Ziban" in helping smokers to give up a bad habit. 44% of smokers who used "Pfizer’s" vareniclin gave up smoking after 12-weeks of tests (in comparison with 30% who used "Ziban"). The group who used placebo only 17.7% gave up smoking. "If the preparation is approved by Ministry of Health I am going to put it in my medicine chest." - said doctor Serena Tonstad, dietology professor from Oslo university, who was the head of test carried out by "Pfizer".
