After approval of almost 20 different documents, Vladimir Putin and Dzunitiro Koidzumi didn`t sign the most important one. Kurile islands are still property of Russia but Tokyo will remind about problem of northern territories when Koidzumi will come to Moscow with return visit. Negotiations between Putin and Koidzumi lasted for whole day - at first tete-a-tete, then by large delegations, then during the dinner. Putin arrived to residence of Japan head early in the morning. They found common topic for conversation: Koidzumi was curious if Russian president goes in for dzudo. "Seldom, but I try", - notice Putin. After that all journalists and officials were asked to leave because presidents wanted to discuss serious and problematic questions. The most important one is a peace treaty. Nobody expected any progress on that problem. Meanwhile, it was known that Japanese intended to raise a question about northern territories - the Kurile islands - and requested them to become Japanese territory. This became almost a tradition: every time Japanese ask to give islands back, Russia in return suggests own peace treaty - Shikotan and Habomai range - according to declaration of 1956. After meeting was over it became clear that sides didn`t sign mutual political treaty. During press-conference, Japanese journalist asked about islands and peace treaty. Putin answered that absence of peace treaty between Russia and Japan prevents intensive economic relationships between 2 countries. "I hope that we will find variant that contributes to people who live at disputable territories. These variants can be found voluntarily", - said Russian president, though there was a feeling that he doesn`t believe in such reality himself. Koidzumi also doesn`t see how this situation can be solved. He just abstractedly noticed that "there is divergence of opinions, but we should overcome this problem". Therefore, according to norms of international law Russia and Japan are still at war. Russia finished negotiations with another member of World Trade Organization - Japan and got necessary support for entrance to this organization from Tokyo. The same result was achieved this Saturday from Southern Korea during Putin`s visit to Pusan. Despite that, Russia and Japan signed program of struggle against international terrorism. They also noted the necessity of struggle against "cyber terrorism". Putin invited Koidzumi with return visit to Moscow. Exact date of Japan premier`s arrival is not known. Russian president will fly to Russia on Tuesday.
