Scientists from Californian University has genetically modified bacteria Escherichia coli to use is as base for alive photograph film with extremely high image resolution. Genetic modification added protein, which reacts on red light, to bacteria. Activation of this protein by emission leads to switching off another gene, which on its turn changes state of molecules-indicators, added to solution. As a result, colony of bacterium, that covers whole surface of film, operates as photo camera. But it registers only red light and its exposure lasts for 4 hours. But resolution in this system can reach 155 thousands of pixels on square millimeter. Biologists have no intentions to use this film in photo cameras, but they say, it can be useful at nano factories. For example, activated by light bacterium can start synthesis of certain substances at exact place, where light has got. It can be useful in arranging of polymers and deposition of metals on substrate.
