Russian scientists along with Norwegian and German colleagues have got Cartesian premium for investigations of Artic. Based of satellite photos, results of polar expeditions and computer modeling, investigations have predicted state of Artic ices at the end of third millennium. By their words, because of global warming by the end of millennium Arctic Ocean will freeze only in winter. There are several articles with analysis of ecologic and economic consequences. Level of ocean will increase sufficiently but there will be new sea routes between Russia and American continent, which will pass through North pole. European Committee annually awards Cartesian premium to international group of researchers. Chairman of jury is Ene Ergma, he is also chairman of Estonian parliament. 76 groups of scientists were candidates for award, 5 of them were declared as winners. Prize fund of 1 million of euros was divided between 5 winners.
