From 400 applications 20 towns were chosen, which were awarded in one of the following categories: ecology, housing conditions, architecture, education, employment and others.
Kazan was a candidate on award for successful project of population removal from slum dwelling realization during 1996-2004. The main sources of financing became part of excise-duty from oil sale, special tax, realization of vacated land and other non-budget funds.
"As a result about 100 thousands of people were moved to modern equipped apartments. 315 houses, 6 schools, 7 kindergartens, 2 hospitals and new roads, gas-, water- and electricity supplies were constructed", - noted founders of premium.
Kazan vice-mayor Oleg Antosenko, the head of Kazan mini-delegation in London, noted that project solved 2 main problems: provided more than 33 thousands of families with new apartments and cleared about 1700 hectares of land in the center of city, which are attractive for investments.
Representatives of Kazan delegation congratulated Miluoki delegation, who won the award, but couldn`t hide their disappointment.
"Nevertheless, we passed to final and this is an achievement already. We think that Kazan represented Russia with dignity", - said Antosenko in interview.
