According to the Internal security department officers, this specials operation was quite easy to conduct. First, the pickets were situated in the busiest Moscow routs, where the owners of forged id cards break all possible rules of the road at rush hours. Second, to detect forged id cards the officers used a special device to read bar-code from id cards of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After reading the bar-code, it was sent to the MFA database via GPRS, and in some seconds, if the card is original, all necessary information on the id was obtained.
The officers say, the forged ids are being bought to show to traffic militiaman. The price for an id varies from $500 to several thousand, depending on the department and rank. Ids are made on original official letterheads, with holograms, stamps and signs, but they are not registered in the MFA database. The consequences for forged id owners may vary.
