Ministry of Defense will send appropriate amendments to law "About military service" to State Duma in the beginning of 2006. Officials of Ministry of Defense decided to realize the planned transfer on 1-year service in several stages. Service with term of 24 months will be obligatory only for draftees of autumn 2006. At spring call-up of 2007 term of service will reduce to 18 months, and for those, who will be called-up after January 1, 2008, service will last for 12 months. Young men on alternative civic service will supposedly serve 31.5 months in 2007 and 21 month - by 2008. Representatives of Ministry of Defencce announced that stage-by-stage reduction of service term is introduced as experiment to "evaluate reaction of society, estimate call-up characteristics, risks of army integration".
