Russian championship of figure-skating starts this Monday in Kazan. By results of the tournament members of national team for participation in European championship, which will take place in Lion (France) on January 16-22, will be determined. Championship of the country will not be deprived of intrigue. According to list of participants, published on official site of Russian Federation of figure-skating, Russian championship will not be ignored by any leading sportsmen. So, first duet of the country Tatyana Totmyanina and Maxim Marinin will perform in competitions of sport pairs. They will skate for last time as amateurs in Russia because after Olympic Games in Turin they leave big sport. Russian leaders in dances on ice Tatyana Navka and Roman Kostomarov will also perform in Russian championship for last time. In female single figure-skating in Kazan will compete 16 sportsmen, among them the most famous are Irina Slutskaya, Elena Sokolova and Victoria Volchkova. The struggle in male single figure-skating is expected to be tense. Among 18 sportsmen only Evgeny Plushenko has invitation to both European championship and Olympic Games. The rest of participants will be determined only by results of the tournament. One can suppose that sportsmen, who will compete in France, will represent Russia on Olympic Games in Turin. On Monday competitions of obligatory dances will take place; women and men will present short programs. On Tuesday medals winners among female figure-skaters will be known, dance duets will demonstrate original program. Sport pairs will start competition. On Wednesday national champions in dances on ice, sport pairs and male single skating will be determined. On Thursday, last day of national championship, ceremonial awarding of winners and demonstrative performances will take place.
