New Year’s outdoor fete in Nalchik are canceled. The town authorities has made this decision in connection with the armed attack on Nalchik in October 2005.
Children’s New Year morning performances are to held, but only in those places, where tightened security is possible.
Nalchik was attacked on October 2005 early in the morning. The troop of terrorists numbering 200 people entered the town. Having been divided into smaller groups, they attacked simultaneously 13 objects, including the airport. Militiamen went into action, some of the attackers hid themselves in captured buildings. By the evening of October 14 all the attackers were beaten.
The terrorist attack on Nalchik resulted in 45 dead people (nine civilians and 36 law enforcement officers), two civilians died in hospital, about a hundred people were injured, including 85 law enforcement officers.
