Consequences of cyclone, which caused 3-day snowstorm in Sakhalin island, are being liquidated. As Far East regional center of Russian Emergency Ministry informed, more than 2-month norm of precipitations fell for first 3 days of new year in Sakhalin. The disaster cut off air and ferry communication of the island, blockaded automobile traffic on many roads of Sakhalin and Kuriles. On Thursday, by data of Russian Ministry of Emergency, about 100 units of techniques will clean snowdrifts on roads. Frequent, intensive snowfalls created the danger of avalanche in Sakhalin mountains. On Wednesday 5 avalanching were registered on south of the island. 3 of them blockaded the traffic on the road between Nevelsk town and Shebunino village. Rescuers worked hard during these days. Yesterday they saved 3 people, who were captured by snowstorm on mountain roads. Because of snowdrifts and ice formations on take-off and landing strips, South Sakhalinsk airport was closed for arrivals and departures for more than 2 days. Thousands of passengers wait in airports of South Sakhalinsk, Moscow, Habarovsk and Vladivostok. "Starting from mid-Wednesday South-Sakhalinsk airport is open for arrivals.
