Russian racers on "KamAZ" lorries kept leadership in rally-raid "Dakar-2006" in class of lorries after 7-th stage of the competitions, which took place between Zuerat and Atar (length of special route being 499 km).

Russian racers on "KamAZ" lorries kept leadership in rally-raid "Dakar-2006" in class of lorries after 7-th stage of the competitions, which took place between Zuerat and Atar (length of special route being 499 km).
Leader of the race Vladimir Chagin finished on 6-th place because the lorry got stuck in sand crater. As official site of the "KamAZ-Master" team informs, at 290-th km of special part of the route leading crew of Vladimir Chagin passed the sand dune and almost fell to giant crater - the lorry turned over near the edge. Chagin, navigator Semen Yakubov and mechanic Sergey Savostin dug the trench for 2 hours and put the ladders in order to remove the car from dangerous place.
Finally the crew continued the race - "KamAZ" finished with broken tire-cover and hose. Nevetherless, Chagin managed to finish on 6-th place - he lost only 40 minutes to the winner of stage Dutch Hans Stacey from MAN team.
The second place took last year`s winner of "Dakar" Firdaus Kabirov from "KamAZ" team. Kabirov is on second position by results of 7 stages. Vladimir Chagin is still a leader of the race with advantage of 1 hour and 22 minutes.
On January 7 participants of rally-raid will compete in 568-km stage over Mauritanian territory - from Atar to Nuakshot. 508 km are the distance of high difficulty. First part crosses canyons and wadis, and the final part will allow the racers to demonstrate highest speed.
