Current meeting promises to become the first political action in new 2006 year. Citizens of Nizhniy Novgorod are displeased with rise of rent. As organizers of meeting - local department of Communist Party of Russian Federation - announced, tariffs on housing services have increased by 20% over the oblast from January 1. Such sharp growth is initiated by increase of prices on gas and electricity.
Experts insist that prices will increase in other spheres: starting from cost of trip in public transport and ending with food. Protest action is held under slogans "Protect home" and "Excessive rent - payment for keeping silence".
Besides rise in prices on rent, people are dissatisfied with new housing code, which came into force on January 1. They demand authorities to revoke it. Picketers hope that other opposing organization will support them.
It should be mentioned that rates on housing services went up not only in Nizhegorodskaya oblast but in many other Russian regions, including Moscow. In this view, observers predict protest actions to sweep over other Russian towns.
