Firdaus Kabirov was the first to overcome the marathon distance. Dutch pilot Hans Stacey on "MAN" finished 5 minutes and 25 seconds later, second Russian pilot Vladimir Chagin on "KamAZ" - 51 minutes and 56 seconds later.
After 8 stages Chagin keeps leadership in tournament. Kabirov is on second place, he loses only 30 minutes and 32 seconds to the winner. Stacey is 44 minutes and 54 seconds behind the leader. The struggle in class of lorries gets more strained with every stage of "Dakar-2006" rally.
As Firdaus Kabirov noted: "Current stage was not hard for me: there were no camel`s-thorn and stones, the route was lack of holes and bumps. The main factor of success was navigation. It was necessary to find 2 hidden points of reference. And there were traps for navigators both times - when route goes one way, and "point" gets out of range. But we managed to cope with task".
Tomorrow will be a rest day. Mechanical engineers prepare to re-activate necessary details for repair works. Tourists, representatives of companies-participants of rally and relatives of racers will arrive to local airport.
