Russian Emergency Ministry considers bird flue pandemic to be one of the threats to national safety of Russia. "One of the threat sources for national safety of Russia is potential threat of bird flu pandemic, conditioned by unfavorable situation with spread of flu virus type A (H5N1), which has overcome species barrier between birds and humans, and changed its biological properties for pathogenicity strengthening", - notes the Ministry emergency situation forecast for 2006, placed on their web-site. Referring to World Health Organization, Emergency Ministry forecasts appearance of new flu virus "for which people are not to have the immunity, in which connection sickness and death rates among people are to rise"
