The speaker of State Duma expressed anxiety in the light of displays of extremism and intolerance in Russia.
In conversation with parliamentary journalists on Sunday he noted that issues of tolerance, mutual respect in society remain the most important agenda of the day not only in Russia but all over the world.
As Gryzlov emphasized, the fact that traditional religions play special and important role in preservation and development of Russian society is beyond any doubt.
"Russia is a temporal state. Legislation in our country is based on realization of constitutional principles of liberty of conscience, believes, including activity of various religions organizations", - noted speaker of State Duma during World Day of Religion.
He said that Russian society is multinational and multireligious. "In this view displays of extremism and intolerance in our country are disturbing". In opinion of chairman of parliament, such cases are unacceptable and should be suppressed severely, guilty should be punished. But along with punishment, extremism should be prevented.
"Present preventive measures are ineffective. This problem will be discussed in State Duma", - emphasized the speaker.
Meanwhile Gryzlov noticed that society and government, mass media must bring up young generation on humane values of philanthropy, peace and harmony, which are preached by different religions.
