Former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze has died at the 87th year of life. This was stated in the family of a politician. This information was confirmed by the Department of public relations of the former President. "Shevardnadze died in 12 hours", - noted there. The politician was 86 years old. The cause of death is not established. Shevardnadze was born on 25 January 1928. on September 29, 1972 he was appointed first Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist party of Georgia, but in 1985 Shevardnadze at the invitation of the former Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev was transferred to work in Moscow, was appointed member of the Politburo of the CPSU Central Committee and Minister of foreign Affairs of the USSR. In early December 1991 Shevardnadze was one of the first governors of the USSR recognized the Belovezhskaya agreement and the eventual demise of the Soviet Union. In early March 1992 he returned to Georgia, where he headed the State Council set up after the overthrow of President Zviad Gamsakhurdia.
