All-Russian center of public opinion investigation (ACPOI) questioned 1564 people from 153 settlements in 46 oblasts, krais and republics of Russia on January 14-15 of 2006.
Then Analytic center of Yuri Levada conducted representative poll of 1600 Russians at the age of 18 years and older in 128 settlements of 46 Russian regions.
By data of ACPOI about 60% of Russians regard Ukraine as a friend and a partner of Russia, 23% consider Ukraine as a friendly state, 28% - a trade and economic partner, 9% - a strategic partner.
By data of Levada-center, 54% of Russians treated Ukraine kindly. In comparison with last year, this percentage used to be sufficiently higher - 74%.
ACPOI informed that third of questioned Russians regard Ukraine as a rival, 15% consider it as a competitor, and 16% - a possible opponent or enemy country. It is characteristic that respondents younger than 45 years take Ukraine for a trade and economic partner of Russia (31-33%), and respondents of 60 years and older - as a friendly country (30%).
By data of Levada-center, 34% of Russians treat Ukraine badly. Almost half of Russian - 48% - suppose that relationships between countries will normalize though it will be hard to call Russia and Ukraine as sister nations. 32% of Russians think that sooner or later relationships between the countries will become friendly. And only 15% of questioned think that Russian-Ukrainian relationships will worsen constantly.
Who is to blame for gas conflict? Majority of Russians (40%) accused Ukrainian administration, 7% blame Russian authorities, 31% consider that all sides are to blame. Another 11% of respondents think that administration of "Gazprom" and "Naftogas" companies are instigators of the scandal. It is evident that conflict will affect March election to Supreme rada of Ukraine.
"Which purposes of Russian policy towards Ukraine should be the top-priority?"
First of all, it must be formation of normal market relationships, including establishment of market prices on energy resources (53% of questioned).
Secondly, Russia should keep normal good-neighbor relations with Ukraine (44%).
Thirdly, 31% of Russians advocate for return of Crimea territory to Russia.
18% of Russian citizens wish Russian-Ukrainian integration.
