Putin`s favorite resort blocked by avalanche
In Krasnodar region an avalanche has blocked the highway connecting Adler town with the resort Krasnaya Polyana. Reportedly, the avalanche descended on February 1, 2006 at about 2 a.m. Moscow time 25 km from Adler. Early in the morning road services started work on clearing the road. Casualties have not been reported.

Besides, the citizens of Adler were left without electricity because of damage of transmission facilities. The accident occurred on February 1 early morning as a result of wet snow adhered on wires. The accident consequences were eliminated by 7.45 Moscow time. According to the information of Emergency Ministry, electricity supply wasn’t interrupted on the outskirts.
Besides, reportedly, on February 1 morning whole Sochi has appeared without electricity and heating, and by 10 a.m. hot water supply and energy supply have been recovered only partially.
Sochi and the resort town Krasnaya Polyana, located not far from it, pretend on the title of the Olympic Games 2014 capital. Up to $4 billion are planned to be invested in the city development, and one billion dollars (in case that Sochi wins the election of Olympic capital) will be invested by International Olympic Committee.
Answering the questions of Russian and foreign journalists on January 13, 2006, Vladimir Putin confirmed that he considered Sochi and its outskirts a wonderful resort and supported the idea of Olympic Games to be held there.
