Record frost stroke Russian East these days. The hardest situation arouse in Buryatia, where temperature fell below -40 degrees centigrade. The severest frost came to Magadan oblast (-60 degrees) and northern regions of Buryatia (-50 degrees). Sharp cold snap has led to ruptures of electric main. Missing of electric energy supply touched more than 2 thousand people. But all ruptures have been liquidated in the shortest possible time without consequences for housing and communal services and life support objects. This was informed by head republican administration of Emergency situations. Frost, which lasts in Buryatia for almost a month, increased damage from fires. Firemen have more calls than usually. In many houses wiring doesn`t take the load because of constantly operating electric radiators. Material losses from 155 ignitions of residential area and economic objects exceed 4 million rubles. 16 people became victims of fire, 100 people were rescued by fire fighters. The statistics in Krasnoyarsk town is also frightening. 72 citizens died in fire, 64 people, bums in majority, froze to death. The most problem settlement of Chita oblast became Balei town. 4 houses remained without heating supply for 2 weeks. Working at -40 degree frost rescuers managed to restore supply to 3 houses last night. Breakdown of central conduit of Balei town took place on January 19. Because of bolt break water supply to 4 city boiler-houses was shut down. Criminal case according to article 293 of Russian Criminal Code ("Negligence") has been instituted. Electric stations of "Russian United Energy System" increased energy production by 10.3% in January of 2006 comparing with the same period of 2005 - till 64.3 milliards kilowatt/hour.
