Commission on prevention and liquidation of emergency situations over Kamchatka oblast took control of water quality in Petropavlovsk and Elizovsky district. As press-service of Kamchatka regional administration has informed, unsatisfactory quality of drinking water supplied to population of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski and Elizovo towns was noticed in January of current year. In Petropavlovsk 27.4% of water tests didn`t meet sanitary requirements. 84.5% of tests at water supply point of Elizovo didn`t satisfy the standards. The problem is caused by surface water entry from Avacha river to water supplying point in Elizovo town. Avacha water pollution progresses during last 10 years because agricultural enterprises waste the river without biological purification. Commission on emergency situations has resolved to take appropriate measures, such as channel cleaning in the area of water supplying point, sanitary-ecologic examination of Avacha river. Perspective project of Petropavlovsk water supply will be developed in first quarter of 2006. City administration of regional center will examine the questions of bactericidal equipment application for additional water disinfection and granting of additional funds for overhaul of city water-supply. At present moment supplied to consumers drinking water satisfies all sanitary norms. There is no danger of intestinal disease spread.
