Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers necessary "to start conversation with HAMAS movement as influential power of Palestinian society as soon as possible".
This was announced by Russian minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov during telephone conversation with USA state secretary Condoleezza Rice, UNO general secretary Kofi Annan and EU commissar on foreign political issues Havier Solana. Lavrov has explained representatives of Middle Asian regulative "quartet" the essence of Vladimir Putin`s initiative of HAMAS invitation to Moscow.
"The dialogue between HAMAS and Russian Federation would be aimed at ensuring of succession in politics of Palestinian national administration during formation of new Palestinian government. That is a stop of violence and a peaceful settlement of conflict with Israel. This course of Mahmud Abbas politics was supported by majority of Palestinians during presidential election in January of 2005", - was said in message of Russian MFA.
Lavrov has also highly estimated efforts of neighboring countries, Egypt especially, which have contacts with HAMAS leaders.
Earlier special representative of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Middle Asian regulation Alexander Kalugin has announced that HAMAS delegation may arrive to Moscow by end of February. HAMAS leaders have expressed willingness to visit Russia in second half of the month. Official invitation of Moscow has not been received yet.
