The case of maimed servicemen Andrei Sychev from Chelyabinsk tank institute persuaded Russian citizens in need for contract service in army. According to poll of All-Russian center of public opinion investigation, number of respondents advocating for formation of contract army exceeds draft supporters. Almost all participants of the poll have heard about Sychev case (93%). 35% of questioned blame army for the incident with the servicemen, 32% lay responsibility on society. Among 1600 respondents in 46 regions, 50% supported army on contract base, 45% advocated for drafting service. Andrei Sychev was beaten on New Year Eve by elder servicemen. As a result of beating the soldier got gangrenous inflammation and was amputated legs and genitals. At present moment the soldier undergoes medical treatment in Moscow military hospital named after Burdenko.
