Russia occupies 136 place in the world on the lifetime of men, stated the head of the Ministry of Public Health and social development Mikhail Zurabov. On the average lifetime of women, said Zurabov, coming out on Wednesday in the State Duma with the report about the demographic situation in the country, Russia took the 91 place in the world. In this case the birth rate in Russia in 2005, according to the data of the Ministry of Public Health and social development, composed 1,34 children to one woman of reproductive age. He explained that the birth rate is calculated on the basis of an average quantity of children born in the country, divided by a quantity of living in Russia women of reproductive age (from 20 to 34 years). Minister resembled that in 1999 this coefficient composed 1,16 children to one woman of reproductive age. Zurabov expressed hope that by 2015 this coefficient will approach to the index of 1,7. In order to liquidate the tendency of the decrease of population the minister emphasized that it was necessary to bring birth rate to 2,14 children to one woman of reproductive age. Describing the demographic situation in the country as a whole, Zurabov reported deputies that in the last 12 years the number of Russian population was reduced by 4 percent, or to 5,8 million people. In 2005 the population was reduced by 0,5 percent. However, according to him, positive tendencies were outlined for the last several years. Thus, the total quantity of children born in 2004-2005 is more than in 1999, when the lowest index of birth rate was noted. According to Zurabov, in 2004 in Russia were born to 241 thousand children more, than in 1999, and in 2005 - to 200 thousand children more than in 2004. The index of mortality in Russia in 2005 composed 16 dead persons to 1 thousand people. According to the data, given by Zurabov, 30 percent of dead persons were at the working age. Large part of the dead persons "for the unnatural reasons" were people who committed suicide, the second place occupied the victims road traffic accidents, the third reason for death was poisoning by alcohol.
